100%!

I am so excited to announce that our team, The Pavement Pounders, has reached our goal of $1,500!
I am humbled and so very proud of our teams efforts to raise money to fight cancer.

We don't want to stop here though! With just a few days until our event, we want to hit $2,000 to show that this new Relay for Life team is dedicated and determined to fight this evil disease. Every penny count to help save a life so that more people can celebrate another birthday.

Why Mandy Relays

Mandy's Reason To Relay:

Mary Beth Knox

[November 28, 1984 - March 27, 2007]

My roommate and best friend from MSU who lost her life at age 21 to a yearlong battle with Sarcoma Cancer.

Throughout her life, Mary Beth worried more about others than she did herself. Her love for her family and friends and selfless attitude made her a genuinely rare find.

Even throughout her sickness, her optimism was unparalleled. During her last few days, when asked by her priest, Father Jerry, if she was afraid to die, her response was, "No, I'm just going to miss my family & friends."

Life can be hard. Work can be stressful. Our loved ones can push us to the breaking point. But in the end, we should be so lucky to have those things in our lives and smart enough as human beings to know they're not forever.

Mary's life was cut shorter than anyone's life ever should be, yet up until her very last moment, she found the silver lining, the brighter side of things, and she made the best of each and every moment because she knew that hers were numbered...

...and what we must remember is that OUR moments are numbered. Regardless of whom we are, our age, our place in the world, our moments are numbered.

Everything we have can be taken away in the blink of an eye.

All I'm asking is that the next time life seems infeasible, or a bad mood seems impossible to shake, just think about Mary Beth, staring death in the face, laughing and loving even more than before.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Mary Beth, you will forever continue to take my breath away...I miss you & love you MBK.

I am walking to honor my best friend Mary Beth Knox - an incredible individual whose life was cut short by Cancer. Throughout her yearlong battle, she fought hard with a smile & carried with her a positive outlook. As my guardian angel Mary Beth gives me strengthcourage and inspiration to fight Cancer by participating in Relay For Life. She has been with me throughout my journey and I know she’ll be there cheering me and the others to the finish line.

Christy Lynn (DePriest) Wright
May 24, 1985 - May 6, 2010
Along with my team, I will also be walking in support of one of the most amazing & beautiful people I have ever had the pleasure to know. She was full of faith, and always supportive and strong throughout her life. She blessed many people with her friendship, love and compassion...and her faith in the Lord was always strong. Thank you God for allowing such a wonderful person to be a part of my life.

Sweets for a good cause

The Pavements Pounders first bake sale was a huge success!

With the help of bakers Mallory, Jessica, Denise and Jenni and the support of the sellers Joey and Mark, our team was able to raise $90 to fight cancer. And all for selling a table full of sweets for $0.50 each!

Don't forget, you still have time to donate to The Pavement Pounders. Our event is quickly approaching and we are so close to our goal!

Our First Fundraiser was a Success!

I am proud to announce that The Pavement Pounders first fundraising efforts were a success.

In coordination with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life committee, we hosted a fundraiser with Texas Roadhouse selling their delicious rolls (and butter... yum!) and gift cards.

In the end The Pavement Pounders sold 30 dozen rolls and 3 gift cards!

This came out to a total of $54.50 donated to the American Cancer Society on behalf of our team.

Thank-you to Denise Pitoniak, Mallory Pitoniak and Jenni Rembisz for all their hard work to make this fundraiser a success!

Why Jenni Relays

This will be my first year doing the Relay for Life since high school. I have chosen to Relay this year to help raise money to fight cancer and for hope... hope that one day everyone can celebrate more birthdays.

I am walking in honor of my Grandma Rembisz who passed away from liver cancer in 1996. This was the first personal attack of cancer affecting my family and it was heartbreaking. Cancer took my Grandmother away from me well before I ever had a chance to get to know her.

{Grandma & my father, her youngest son}

I am also walking on behalf of my Grandpa Smith who is currently battling with Multiple Myeloma. It has been a long couple years but he is fighting it with strength, courage and laughter that I look up too everyday.

This past year a high school friend of The Pavement Pounder's, Mrs. Christy DePriest Wright, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is battling it with positivity and strength that amazes me. I am walking on her behalf as well.

Why We Relay

This year, The Pavement Pounders are helping save lives from cancer by taking part in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, and I’m hoping you will support my efforts with a donation.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives people in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Relay For Life raises much-needed funds and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer.

Thanks to your support, the American Cancer Society can:
  • Help people stay well by helping them to take steps to prevent cancer or detect it early, when it’s most treatable.
  • Help people get well by being in their corner around the clock to guide them through every step of their cancer experience
  • Find cures by funding groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer’s causes, determine how best to prevent it, and discover new ways to cure it
  • Fight back by working with lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and rally communities worldwide to join the fight
Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against cancer … whatever your reasons, I hope you’ll choose to make a difference by making a donation online to support my efforts. We are so grateful to have people like you in my life who want to see an end to cancer in our lifetime. Together we can save lives.

What is the Relay for Life?

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

Anyone can participate in Relay For Life. Friends, families, neighbors, classmates, sports teams, etc., can form their own teams. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you at Relay.

The only requirement to participate in Relay For Life is the registration fee that is due upon registration. After that, anything you can raise through individual, team, or online fundraising is graciously accepted. It is recommended that each participant to set a personal goal to raise $100. If you raise more, that's even better. Even if you do not raise $100, you are still welcome to participate.
